How do you unconsciously destroy the positive effects of your walk?

A walk in the fresh air is considered the easiest way to reduce stress, boost your mood and get your body going. But an unconscious habit can ruin all these benefits: using your smartphone while walking.

Why your cell phone is ruining your walk

Scientific studies show that outdoor exercise has numerous positive effects. People who go for a walk not only increase their heart rate, but often also feel happier, more balanced and mentally fresher. But as soon as the smartphone comes into play, this effect is reversed.

Studies have found that people who look at their cell phone while walking benefit less from the exercise. Their heart rate remains lower, they experience fewer positive feelings and are less connected to their surroundings. Their gait becomes more unstable, their posture deteriorates and even their perception of nature is negatively affected.

Cell phone use increases stress and reduces performance

In addition, a study has shown that using a smartphone while running increases stress levels instead of reducing them. Looking at your phone before a workout can also have a negative effect: studies show that scrolling through social media before exercise leads to mental exhaustion and even reduces physical performance.

Put your cell phone on pause - for your health

As Arnold Schwarzenegger says: "Put the machine away!" Your smartphone has many useful applications, but during a walk or workout is not the right time for it. Consciously treat yourself to this little digital break to get the full benefit of your exercise - for your body, your posture and your mental well-being.
